Project Management Electrical Phase

Services and Materials Provided:

  • Developing and maintaining a project schedule
  • Conducting project kickoff meeting and subsequent design review meetings
  • Scope of work document development for electrical subcontractors
  • Obtained electrical installation bids once the mechanical equipment layouts were completed and a thorough site inspection was complete
  • Assisting  customer in acquiring the necessary electrical permits
  • Coordinated with CREC for installation of high voltage power feed from Route F to entry point
  • Coordinated with the mechanical contractors to ensure the electrical phase of the project can be installed in an efficient manner as required by the fast track project schedule
  • Coordinated and/or managing electrical subcontractor for:
    • Installation of high voltage power feed from entry point into quarry to the pit substation
    • Addition of pump station 480V feed at entry point of high voltage power feed into quarry
    • Installation of 3-phase 480V power feeds from pit substation to MCCs located in power house
    • Installation of power house grid grounding pad
    • Installation of 3-phase power, E-stop circuit, control, and DeviceNet installation from MCCs to field devices
    • Installation of all network cabling and media
    • Inspection, approval and sign-off of all completed work
    • Review and approval of labor and material invoices
  • Worked in conjunction with customer’s purchasing department for the purchasing of additional equipment or hardware as required
  • Development of weekly progress report of all electrical aspects of project
  • Conducted semi-weekly project status update meetings

Situation Analysis

Customer did not have the resources or expertise for project management of electrical needs to implement a new quarry.  Applied Technologies provided the project management expertise necessary in order to get the new site operational.

Technical Details

The project management of the electrical phase included obtaining competitive bids for the electrical installation of the project’s power, control and data requirements, oversight and management of the electrical subcontractor’s installation progress, schedule, quality, and costs, coordination between the electrical and mechanical disciplines on the project and regular project status reporting to customer’s management team.
